Get clear on money, roles, parenting, and values before you say “I do.”
Online and in-person premarital coaching for Red Deer couples who want to start strong and stay strong.
Most couples spend months planning their wedding and almost no time preparing for the actual relationship. This is your chance to do things differently, to slow down, tune in, and get clear about what you’re building together.
Sessions start at $200 per hour. A full session is 120 minutes. The introductory session is free.
Before You Say “I Do”
-Make Sure You’re Aligned on What Comes After-
Sessions are online via secure Zoom from my office in Red Deer, serving engaged and premarital couples across Alberta.
Whether this is your first marriage or your third, your relationship deserves more than wishful thinking and good intentions.
This work is about preparing for the relationship - not just the wedding.
If you’re asking questions like:
- “Are we actually aligned on parenting, money, or values?”
- “How do we stay connected when things get hard?”
- “What happens when we disagree or disappoint each other?”
- “How do we make this marriage different from our last one?”
You’re in the right place.
What We Cover in Premarital Work
This isn’t a checklist. It’s a conversation that goes deep.
Using
Relational Life Therapy, we explore the patterns you’re bringing in, the expectations you’re carrying, and the tools you’ll need to stay connected long-term.
Together, we’ll work through:
- Communication styles and conflict patterns
- Intimacy, affection, and emotional safety
- Parenting philosophies and family systems
- Financial priorities and boundaries
- Cultural, religious, and blended family dynamics
- What to do when things get hard and how to repair well
What You’ll Learn
We’ll work through the real-world topics most couples avoid until it’s too late:
- Boundaries with in-laws and extended family
- Roles and expectations in your partnership
- Communication when you’re overwhelmed or hurt
- How to fight well and repair quickly
- Sex, intimacy, and how your needs may shift over time
This Is for You If...
- You want to build something healthy and sustainable
- You want to be proactive, not reactive
- You want to feel closer and clearer before you say "I do"
This Is Especially Important If…
- One or both of you have been married before
- You’re entering a stepfamily or blended family situation
- You’re unsure how to integrate extended family or parenting roles
- You want to create a healthier legacy than what you were shown growing up
Marriage doesn’t make the relationship easier.
But it does invite you to get serious about how you grow together.
You’re Not Just Building a Wedding. You’re Building a Future
The Premarital Road Map is customized to who you are, where you’ve come from, and what you want to build.
- I don’t tell you how to love.
- I help you get honest about what it’s going to take.
Questions Before You Begin
Who is premarital coaching for?
- Engaged couples who want to start their marriage with clarity, not assumptions. It's also a good fit for couples who are seriously committed but not yet engaged - if you're building a life together, the conversations are worth having now rather than later.
How is this different from premarital counselling through a church or officiant?
- Religious premarital programs are values-based and typically cover compatibility in broad strokes. This is skills-based. You'll work through specific conversations - finances, roles, conflict patterns, family of origin - with a trained RLT therapist who can intervene when patterns emerge, not just facilitate discussion.
What topics does the Premarital Road Map cover?
- Financial transparency and money values, roles and household expectations, communication and conflict patterns, intimacy and connection, family of origin and how it shapes you, and blended family preparation if relevant. The focus areas are tailored to what's most live for your relationship.
How many sessions does it take?
- Most couples complete the Premarital Road Map in 4 to 6 sessions. Some go deeper on specific areas, others move through quickly. We'll have a clear picture after the first full session.
Do we have to be engaged?
- No. If you're in a serious relationship and building toward marriage, the work is relevant now. Starting before engagement often means fewer entrenched patterns to work through.
Are sessions online or in person?
- Both. Most couples across Alberta join by secure Zoom. In-person sessions in Red Deer are available Mondays and Thursdays. The intro session can be either - whatever works best for you.
What does it cost?
- Sessions start at $200 per hour. A full session is 120 minutes. The introductory session is free - it's the best way to assess fit before you invest anything.
