Why the Right Fit Matters More Than You Think

Before you book a marriage counsellor, there are a few things worth getting clear on.

The wrong fit doesn’t just slow things down. It can make the relationship feel worse.

This page will help you ask the right questions before you take that next step.

You don’t need to figure this out perfectly before booking. The goal here is to help you ask better questions.

From My Experience to Yours

Before I became a marriage counsellor, I sat where many couples sit now—hurt, disconnected, and not sure what to do next.

I tried therapy. More than once.

But what we got was vague advice, side-by-side individual work, or someone who didn’t understand the relationship itself.

We left sessions more frustrated than when we walked in.

It wasn’t until I found Relational Life Therapy that things started to change.

You can learn more about my background and approach here.

What Most Couples Don’t Realize

Most therapists are trained to work with individuals, not relationships.

That difference matters more than most couples realize.

If you want a deeper breakdown of what actually makes couples counselling effective (and what to avoid), read the full guide here:

How to Choose a Couples Counsellor

What to Look for in a Marriage Counsellor

Before you book, it’s worth slowing down and asking a few clear questions.

✔️ Do they work primarily or exclusively with couples
✔️ Are they trained in a relational model like Relational Life Therapy
✔️ Do they use structure and skill-building, not just conversation
✔️ Will they challenge both partners without taking sides

You are not being difficult by asking these questions.

You are protecting your relationship.

You can explore the different ways this work is applied  depending on what your relationship is facing.

This is how couples counselling sessions are structured in practice.

→ What I Offer (And Why It’s Different)

I don’t offer general therapy.

I work exclusively with couples using Relational Life Therapy, a direct and practical

approach that helps you break patterns and rebuild connection.

This work is focused. It’s active. And it’s built to create real change.

I bring:

  • Over 40 years of lived relational experience
  • 23 years in behavioral safety and conflict resolution
  • A focus on practical tools, real conversations, and honest accountability

Many couples experience meaningful shifts within 4–6 focused sessions, with tools to continue the work between sessions.
